Música/Qué escuchar//Zoey Van Goey "Propeller Versus Wings" (Chemical Underground/Popstock!)/ Marzo 2011

Otro estupendo disco ha caido en mis manos gracias a Popstock!, en esta ocasión es un trabajo recorrido por una revitalizante brisa Pop, de variados registros y con el que podremos divertirnos, al tiempo que sus momentos intimistas haran aflorar nuestra melancolía, todo ello bañado por un halo de intranscendencia como todo buen disco Pop, e interpretado con sensibilidad, buen gusto y con unas armonías vocales y unas melodias brillantes, apuntaladas por unas guitarras, por momentos aguerridas y siempre en su punto justo. En el álbum se aprecian variadas influencias que, lejos de hacer desmerecer el trabajo, nos llevan a conocer el buen gusto de sus intérpretes, que consiguen transformarlas en algo a todas luces personal e irresistible.

Este es el segundo largo de una chica y dos chicos que se conocieron en la Universidad de Glasgow en 2006, Kim Moore (teclados, guitarra y voz, inglesa), Michael John McCarthy (guitarra, irlandés) y Matt Brennan (batería y voz, canadiense). En 2007 editan su primer single Foxtrot Vandals, producido por el guitarrista y cantante de Belle & Sebastian, Stuart Murdoch. Al año siguiente lanzan un segundo sencillo Sweethearts In Disguise, con la producción del batería de The Delgados, Paul Savage, que también hace lo propio con el primer disco, "The Cage Was Unlocked All Along", que autoeditan en 2009 y que relanza Chemical Underground en 2010, año en el que el bajista Adam Scott se une a la banda. El 14 de febrero del año en curso salió a la venta el álbum que nos ocupa, con Savaje de nuevo tras la mesa de control.

El título del disco se inspira en un film belico llamado "A Matter Of Life And Death (Stairway To Heaven) - A vida o muerte" (Michael Powell y Emeric Pressburger, 1946), interpretadopor David Niven y Kim Hunter. Su relación con el cine se extiende también a la composición e interpretación de la música, en colaboración con el pianista escocés David Paul Jones, para el Teatro Nacional de Escocia de la adaptación para teatro de la, estupenda, película de Takeshi Kitano "Dolls - Marionetas, 2002".

1. Si aun no habéis visto "(500) Days Of Summer", en castellano "500 días juntos", no sé a que estáis esperando. Es una de las mejores películas del año y además repleta de buena música.
