Pete Seeger, (02-05-1919; Manhattan, New York City, NY · 27-01-2014; New York City, NY), una de las figuras clave en la recuperación y el renacimiento del Folk en los US a finales de los 50s y principios de los 60s, recolectando y divulgando las viejas tonadas abandonadas y olvidadas, e inculcando en la gente la necesidad y conveniencia de recuperar la tradición perdida, aquella que canta y esparce la sabiduría popular.

'Antaño, la inspiración de los artistas entretenía, educaba a sus paisanos ... El artista moderno tiene una responsabilidad adicional, animar a otros a ser artistas. ¿Por qué? Porque la tecnología destruirá el alma humana, a no ser que seamos conscientes de que cada uno de nosotros, de alguna manera, seamos un creador, tanto como espectador o consumidor ... Hacer nuestra propia música, nuestros propios libros, si queremos conservar nuestra alma' 

Tres canciones para el recuerdo
En 1948 fruto del reencuentro con su amigo y compañero, en el colectivo The Almanac Singers, Lee Hays surgen The Wevers. Un año más tarde nace, compuesta a medias con él, una de sus canciones más conocidas If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song), que se convertiría en un poderoso single en 1963 en la voz de Trini López (#3 US). Durante los 60s muchas canciones de Seeger fueron interpretadas por otros artistas, tanto del Folk, del Country o el Rock. En 1955 compuso tres estrofas de un tema llamado Where Have All the Flowers Gone, a la cual el cantante Joe Hickerson añadió una cuarta en 1960. La canción alcanzó las listas en 1962 en la interpretación tanto de The Kingston Trio como de Peter, Paul and Mary. En 1965 The Byrds, una de las bandas precursoras del Folk-rock, deciden titular y abrir su segundo álbum con una composición de Pete, Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season), --cuya última estrofa está adaptada del Libro del Eclesiastés--, que coparía lo más alto del Hot 100 US a finales de ese año, y que subiría hasta el #26 en UK.
