Música/Qué escuchar//Erroll Garner "Concert By The Sea"(Sony)/ Diciembre 2010

En el post de ayer haciamos referencia a "Concert By The Sea" de Erroll Garner, al tiempo que hablabamos un poco de su tema más conocido "Misty", como uno de los discos más vendidos de la historia del Jazz, hoy tendremos la oportunidad de escucharlo.
El disco fue grabado en directo, en Carmel, California, en septiembre de 1955, - Clint Eastwood, al que nombrabamos en el artículo de "Misty", fue alcalde, independiente, de Carmel-by-the-Sea, California de 1986 a 1988, que curiosamente es donde se desarrolla la acción de su film "Play Misty For Me", también mencionado ayer-. Acompañaban al genial Erroll, que saca unas deslumbrantes sonoridades al piano, Eddie Calhoun (contrabajo) y Denzil Best (batería), que lo secundan con sobriedad y maestría, consiguiendo contagiarnos con su entusiasmo y su swing.

Erroll Garner desarrolló su carrera entre los años 40's y 70's del siglo pasado, no sabía leer música pero eso no le impidió convertirse en un virtuoso del piano. Personal, elegante, espectacular y con unas dotes para la improvisación extraordinarias, llegó a ser uno de los más populares músicos de Jazz de su época, llegando su disco de 1955 "Concert By The Sea"(Sony), a disco de Oro convirtiendose en uno de los más vendidos de la historia del género.
Garner utilizaba su mano izquierda para marcar el ritmo, lo mismo que si fuese una guitarra rítmica, mientras que con la derecha generaba el swing. También solía hacer variaciones sobre los temas a la hora de interpretarlos, lo que mantenía a sus músicos continuamente pendientes de sus movimientos.
Misty es su composición más famosa, realizada a principios de los 50's, alcanzó el éxito al final de esa década y en 1971 la volvió a grabar para su inclusión en la película "Play Misty For Me".
El precioso tema sirve como escusa para el título del primer largo dirigido por Clint Eastwood, amante del Jazz y del piano, "Play Misty For Me (Escalofrío en la noche, 1971)", que también protagoniza. En el, Dave (Eastwood), es un Dj del que se enamora obsesivamente Evelyn (Jessica Walter), hasta el punto de hacer peligrar la integridad física de aquel y de quienes le rodean.
